EXIF Data

Postby DuncanDavies » 2010-August-24(Tue) 8:55AM

I uploaded a couple of images to my gallery this evening, and have just noticed that neither have any EXIF data listed. I've checked the export files on my hard drive, and the data is definitely there, so I'm a bit confused as to why it wasn't carried over.
Anyone have any ideas?
I exported the images from LR in the same way I always do, using the mogrify plugin. :?

That is odd. I have never had this issue personally. The full EXIF is contained in each JPG.

Sorry for the delay in letting you know about this, but I was working on some code to hide EXIF data for images that are in an active or voting assignment.

From now on, you won't see any EXIF data until the voting is finished.

Landon, as an admin, you will see the EXIF data, so that we can check the dates that the entries were shot to make sure it was during the assignment month.

Ah, well that explains the anomaly! Cool beans.

The two images were posted to my own gallery, not an assignment album, so was this a glitch during testing the new code?

Hmmm, could be. Is the data still missing? If so, could you post the URL from the bottom of the image page so that I can take a look?

I tried saving the images (using Right-click, Save Image As) back to my desktop, and the EXIF data is there.

Here are the URL's:

That's strange. I just tried deleting the EXIF data for these images from the database, which should prompt the data to be read again, but the same data was recreated. As I am not aware of any other images that are effected, I don't think this was related to the recent changes I made to hide EXIF data for active or voting assignment images.

I don't really know what to suggest. Has nothing at all changed in your image export process?

My laptop was re-imaged recently, and these 2 images were the first I've done since then - which suggests user error
However, I'm 99% sure my export process is exactly the same (LR export, mogrify to apply borders etc.)
Anyway, I'll try uploading another image and see if I have the same problem.

but why would you hide the EXIF? So we can't vote based on a system/manufacturer bias? or... ah the copyright, but that is in IPC (??)

This has come up a few times Jesse. Basically, you can tell who shot the image by certain EXIF elements, and that might sway some people's judgment.

It's really not a big deal either way, but it is nice to leave the copyright name in the EXIF/IPTC and not have that shown until after the voting finishes.

Hi Duncan

Did you find an answer on this as I am having the same issue exporting out of Lightroom. I removed LRMogrify as it was applying the borders after LR had set the file size which took me over the upload limit.
Apart from that , I'm only using file size and pic size settings in the LR Export and still no EXiF

In LR Mogrify you just need to subtract the width of your border from the final size you want, and then plug that number in to the maximum dimension field.

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone still having issues with EXIF data not listing? I uploaded my first image yesterday and the EXIF data is not displaying. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Bill
