Maximum image size for galleries

Postby DuncanDavies » 2010-August-02(Mon) 5:12AM

I've just noticed that the Introduction section of the Galley Homepage and the Rules and Guidelines state the maximum acceptable width/height of an image is 800 pixels, whereas this post states it is now 950 pixels.

I assume the aforementioned pages require updating? That said, everyone still seems to be sticking to the 800 pixel maximum, so maybe I've read the post wrong. Either that, or no one esle has noticed. :?

The page needs updating. I changed the maximum to 950 pixels recently, after I changed my own gallery maximum and it was mentioned that the member's galleries should also be increased.

800 is still a nice size for the web, and you can upload what you like, but now the max is 950px. I'll update the page when I get a few minutes.

I assume the old issue has not gone away of verticals being too tall to display the entire image without scrolling up and down on some monitor/browser combinations.

Right, there isn't a way to specify a maximum width and height individually, which is a pain. I'm seriously thinking of trying to make time to migrate to another gallery software package.

The thought of doing that kind of migration with this gallery as is sends shivers up my back.

Welp, nice knowing you Martin as I know when you start that mess you'll have to pack it in for a bit :D

Believe me Rob, if it's a big job, it won't happen. :D

I'd only attempt that if there are some good strong migration scripts, and I believe there are. I'd set aside a morning, and set up a Zenphoto gallery and give it a try with a local copy of the members' galleries site. If it was relatively easy, I'd have a play with the theme, and see how quickly I could put something together that I liked. If it could be done in a day or so total, I'd probably do it. I don't have a morning to look at this for now though. Hopefully sometime soon. :-)
